Netflix show ‘Dahmer’ released in 2022, has had a mixture of views some thinking this horror thriller is a hit and others saying its glamourised for the camera. The show Dahmer is one of many about serial killers from all over the globe, knowing this, do these shows glamourise the appalling acts?

After the show was released some disturbing edits and clips have been spread over the media ‘romanticising’ and even calling this murderer attractive.

But what if there’s more, is Netflix encouraging this?

Reporter Pilar Ortego, writing for The Amsterdammer, examined the popular Netflix series based on the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, wrote, “it explores the dark side of the true crime genre that glamorises murderers as pop icons while disregarding the victims’ stories”.

It has been reported that families of Dahmer’s victims have expressed outrage at the Netflix series. They say that they were never approached about the show’s release. Rital Isbell, whose brother was murdered by Dahmer, had her heart-breaking victim impact statement dramatized in the series without her knowledge or consent. She also said she wishes some of the show’s profits had been donated to the children of Dahmer’s victims, saying it’s, “sad”, the streamer is, “just making money off this tragedy. That’s just greed”.
